We pretty much said all we wanted to say about Shakespeare's King Lear in the first 45 minutes. Then we started watching the movie "A Thousand Acres" and spent the rest of the evening identifying the corresponding Shakespeare characters for each of the movie's characters. I last saw the movie about 10 years ago, so it was almost like seeing it for the first time. It really is a good movie. Jane Smiley - in the book that the movie is based on - has much more complex character development than Shakespeare. But that's probably not a fair comparison because Jane Smiley could use a lot more words in her novel than Shakespeare could in his play. Oh, and the snacks were good. Since there were only three of us we could really pig out on the food. You all should have been there.
