The Book of Revelation (from the Christian Bible) could be considered the First Century’s version of dystopia. Following last month’s discussion of George Orwell’s Nineteen Eighty-Four it seems appropriate to move on to the granddaddy of them all. As a work of literature it’s hard to find another example that has received more attention over the past 2,000 years as many people tried to remove it from its First and Second Century context and apply it to their own time. Thus in terms of history and impact of Western Civilization, the Book of Revelation meets our definition of a “great” book.

There were six of us present on April 30 to discuss the Book of Revelation. The group present represented a diverse range of perspectives on the book, and we all had an interesting and lively discussion.
