February 24, 2012 -- Raisin in the Sun by Lorraine Hansberry
Location: Plaza Branch Library, Small Meeting Room
Address: 4801 Main Street, Kansas City, MO
Time: 7:00 PM
A Raisin in the Sun is a play by Lorraine Hansberry that debuted on Broadway in 1959. The title comes from the poem "Harlem" (also known as "A Dream Deferred") by Langston Hughes. The story is based upon a black family's experiences in the Washington Park Subdivision of Chicago's Woodlawn neighborhood.
Since it's a play it can be read in about an hour; so it's one of the shorter reads on our 2012 schedule.

It's been brought to my attention that Emiel Cleaver's film on Freedom, Inc. is begin shown and discussed on Friday (tomorrow) at 6:30 p.m. That's the same night that our Great Book KC group is scheduled to meet. That could draw a large crowd and regular library parking may be full. You can always park on the street. I think there are some unreserved parking spaces on the non-library side of the covered parking (along the south wall). I also don't think (but can't guarantee) that anybody will be towed or ticketed for parking in one of the business parking places in the non-library side when it's after business hours.
There were nine people who attended our meeting on February 24. It was a good discussion among an interesting mix of erudite individuals. Those present including the following: Bernie, Kathryn, Tim, Karen, Marty, Bo, Brian, John and Clif.
